GENERAL TRACTOR SAFETY RULES

The following safety rules are written for your benefit and the benefit of others. These rules are minimum rules for safety and in no way define a totally safe tractor. It is up to the owners and drivers to make the tractor as safe as possible. So please pay close attention to the following safety rules. PLEASE DO NOT TAKE ANY SHORT CUTS ON SAFETY!

·        All tractors will be inspected. Tractors not meeting the safety requirements as outlined will not be allowed to pull until corrections are made.

·        All tractors must have full hoods, securely fastened fenders, adequate steering and working brakes.

·        All tractor fuel tanks and fuel lines must be securely fastened and have proper cap. All fuel line connections must be securely fastened, (crimped, clamped, flared, etc.)

·        All starter pulleys must have adequate nuts, bolts, and washers screwed in the end of the crankshaft to retain a loose pulley. All starter pulleys must be made of billet steel and aluminum. No cast iron or pressed steel pulleys may be used on the engine, these pulleys can and will fly apart at high RPM. The stock class will be an exception.

·        ALL tractors in modified classes must have a dead-man throttle with forward motion to accelerate.

·        All tractors must have scatter shields that cover all rotating parts of the engine and driveline. The engine must have scatter shield opposite the cam side of the engine. It must be made of 1/8 inch steel or 3/16 inch aluminum and cover the full height and width of the engine block and be attached in a secure manner to the frame and head or head plate. The flywheel and clutch assemblies must be covered 360 degrees with 1/8 inch steel or 3/16 inch aluminum and be securely fastened to the frame or engine. All belts and driveline shafts, u-joint, flex coupling must be covered 180 degrees with 1/8 inch steel or 3/16 inch aluminum. Stock classes must have factory shielding.

·        All tractors must have a working kill switch with a ring or loop minimum of 1” diameter mounted on rear of tractor in an accessible position for the sled hooker to hook up. It is the responsibility of the driver to locate the kill switch so that the rope will not tangle with the rear of the tractor. A kill switch must kill the electric fuel pump on modified tractors. A grace period of one pull will be allowed for non-compliance.

·        All tractors must have rear anti-turnover devices sufficient to support the weight of the tractor. A minimum of two metal centered wheels (wheels can be plastic but centers must be metal), 5” in diameter and 1” wide, or two steel pads must be on less than 5” from the ground and 5” from the rear of the tractor tires to the center of the pads. (This does not include motorcycle tractors.)

·        All tractors will be hand pushed backwards to the sled when being hitched or unhitched. All drivers must place the tractor in neutral, have their foot off the clutch, and signal the hooker by holding both hands in air.

·        All drivers must remain seated and keep one hand on the steering wheel at all times during the pull. No bouncing or jerking the tractor while it is in motion.

·        All tractors must start from a tight chain.

·        All modified single cylinder tractors must have cylinder head restraints of sufficient to prevent the head and/or the cylinder from blowing upward in case of failure. This is recommended for stock tractors also.

·        Helmets must be worn in all classes. Only appropriate footwear. NO SANDALS OR FLIP FLOPS ALLOWED.

·        All tractors will be inspected and have a safety permit sticker or tag in place before the tractor can pull.

·        Drawbar will be horizontal and stationary in all directions. With hitching device not more than 1” in thickness and must have a 1-1/2” hold for hook. Pulling point may not be more than Ύ” from back edge of hitching device parallel to and not more than 13” above the ground. COMMENT: pulling hitch should be made of steel.

·        All weight and weight brackets must be secured to the tractor. Front weights must not extend more than 8ft. from the center of the rear wheels. This is with the exception of 16 stock alt. They have 7” weight bars (NQS Rules). Rear weights must not extend past the rear tires. If any weight falls off the tractor, after 50’ line you will be disqualified. No out of bounds after passing full pull line.

·        Drivers must be 16 yrs of age or older to participate in the 48 cubic inch, 50.5 cubic inch and all motorcycle classes.

·        No professional pulling tires in 4000 RPM classes. This includes Dick Cepek big bar tires and Vogel tires. All 4000 RPM tractors must run bar type tires. All open RPM classes can use any bar tire or chevron cut tires.

·        Only 2 attempts at starting the sled, even if weight falls off. Maximum of 2 attempts.

·        First puller has the option to turn down first pull and come back at his choice position in the class.

TRACK RULES: GENERAL RULES OF OPERATION

·        ALL JUDGES DECISIONS ARE FINAL: On any point of controversy, any disagreement will result in disqualification. Vulgar language or use of any alcoholic beverages will be grounds for dismissal and disqualification.

·   All tractors will draw for positions. All tractors will re-pull in order.

o       If the tractor is not ready when number is called, that tractor will pull when ready or within three minutes after the last tractor.

·   Maximum of one pull per class. Tractor may be entered only one time per class. Tractor may enter class as long as re-pulls has not yet started. ( Note: With the exception of Kid’s classes) Tractors may enter a maximum of 2 classes per tractor.

·   Drivers will have two attempts to move the sled. Must pull past the fifty-foot mark to start an official pull. If tractor does not attempt to hook to the sled, a refund will be given.

·   Pulls may be measured electronically or mechanically. Regardless of how pulls are measured, all decisions of track officials are final.

·   The track will be graded between pulls when possible.

Weights must be changed before hitch height is checked. Weights or fuel cannot be added after leaving scales. Driver must be in seat with helmet before any measurements of hitch is taken.

All persons, other than the driver and helper and judges, are to be off the track before any tractor pulls.

In case of sled weight change, the tractor will be allowed to shift or change weight, but will be allowed to re-weight and have the hitch rechecked.

Rules committee will reserve the right to refuse to let any individual hook to their sled for any reason. Board members will serve as rules committee

The driver must keep the tractor under control at all times and operate it safely at all times on and off the track.

The driver must keep the tractor under control at all times and operate it safely at all times on and off the track.

Sled weight will be determined by the sled owner by the third tractor pulled in each class.

DISQUALIFIACATIONS: FLAGMANS’S DECISIONS

·   Any act or manner of driving, which would cause bodily injury to the driver or to the spectators, will be grounds for disqualifications.

·   If a weight falls off after reaching the 50ft. mark the tractor will be disqualified. If the weight falls off before the 50ft. mark or after passing the full pull line NO disqualification.

·   Weights cannot be in a dangerous position on tractor, weight must be securely fastened.

·    Drivers must have one hand on the steering wheel at all times.

·   Driver must remain in seat of tractor at all times when pulling.

·   If the tractor tire or tires touches or goes over the boundary line tractor will be disqualified.

 TRACK SAFETY RULES

·   Helmet, fire suits, and fire extinguishers that were mandatory cannot be taken off as weights.

·   All drivers must be capable of operating tractor on track, including starting, stopping, and forward control, with the exception of the youth classes.

·    All tractors must be equipped with a breakaway kill switch.

·    Driver must have one hand on steering wheel at all times.

·   Driver must remain in seat while pulling.

·   All modified tractors must have working fire extinguishers mounted to the tractor.

·   Speed in pit area must be at idle at all times.
